Access, Eligibility and Contact Information:
- EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage) provides prescription
benefits to those who are 65 and older and have an annual income of $35,000 or
less
(for single individuals) or $50,000 or less (if married). Those who receive
full Medicaid benefits or have other prescription coverage that is superior
to EPIC are ineligible.
Single seniors with income up to $20,000 and married seniors with income
up to $26,000 are eligible for the Fee Plan. The cost of joining is based
upon
annual income and is paid in quarterly installments. Those with income
between $20,001 and $35,000 for single seniors and $26,001 and $50,000
for married
seniors, are enrolled in the Deductible plan. Once enrolled, seniors
pay full price for their prescriptions until they meet an annual deductible
based
upon
income. Co-payments for both programs range from $3 to $20 depending
upon the cost of the medication.
Qualified individuals can receive assistance from EPIC even if they receive
drug benefits under Medicare Part D. EPIC will pay a portion of the costs
of qualified prescription drugs for which no payment or reimbursement
is made
by Medicare Part D. This portion of the program was enacted in 2004.
